When Granddad came to Dubai

Recently Granddad came to Dubai for a visit. It was good to see him. we went out lots with him. the best fun was going to Jumeirah Beach, in between the Burj Al Arab and the Palm. We tried to surf but the waves were too little so we started body boarding.

We also went to the Marina, showed him Ski Dubai and took him to Bab Al Shams in the desert.

Hey Julian,

Nice to see you blogging as you grow up in Dubai, brings back a lot of memories for me. My parents moved to Dubai back in the 70's when Dubai was really only just beginning to develop - I mean from sand to brick! Not so many towers back then.. I was born in the uk in 1981, then 2 weeks later I was off to live in Dubai, and was there for 15 years. I wouldn't replace those years for anything! My brothers and I had the best upbringing ever! We had so much freedom and had so much to learn and explore. I went to DESS and then EC. My dad still lives out there, and on return visits I would often sigh in disbelief, what had they done to my old Dubai? But I can see from your blog that growing up in Dubai hasn't changed much - what a great lifestyle hey! I remember my nan and grandad visiting at christmas, I hated to see them leave!

Keep blogging, oh and here's a photo of us motorbiking back in the 90's on the original dirt donk track next to the Country Club which I believe has also gone now - sad.

Thanks for bringing a smile to my face, what memories!
